Under guidance of the management holding company L. Possehl & Co. mbH, Lübeck, nowadays approximately 7,000 employees worldwide are busy making a success of the Possehl Group, which includes production plants, trading organizations and specialty services. Possehl does business with both private and commercial customers, the corporate clientele being predominant. Ever since the end of the 19th century, globalization has been a driving force.
A major success factor is Possehl's devolved management principles. Together with a few staff departments, the Executive Board of the parent company coordinates groupwide functions common to all the divisions and their companies: Human Resources, Legal Affairs, Controlling, Accounting/Internal Auditing, Taxes, and group-relevant PR. Apart from these staff functions, the divisions operate locally and to the greatest possible extent autonomously. In fact, this principle of business latitude has secured Possehl's success during its 160-year history.

Possehl is a success history that originated in Lübeck and has since spread throughout the world. Starting out as a local hardware trader, Possehl was soon serving customers on a European scale. In the 20th century, Possehl began to grow into a global group with international customers.
Today, Possehl comprises nine divisions grouped around the globe. Most of the parent companies of these divisions are headquartered in Europe. The growing internationalization of the enterprise is, in the final resort, the logical outcome of a longstanding Possehl tradition.
